UAE Salary Increased to AED 6,000 – Who Will Actually Get It?

The UAE salary increased to AED 6,000 for Emiratis working in the private sector after the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirmed a new minimum wage rule. The decision tool effect from January 1, 2026 and applies across the UAE. It is aimed at strengthening Emiratisation and ensuring stable income levels for citizens employed outside the public sector.

The policy was earlier announced through the Mohre app and later confirmed on official government channels. From 2026, employers will not be allowed to issue renew or amend citizen work permits unless the registered salary meets the new threshold.

UAE Salary Increased in 2026, Who Is Covered

The salary increased in UAE in 2026 applies only to Emirati citizens working in the private sector. It does not apply to foreign workers including Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi and/or any other nationalities. The rule covers work permits with a two year validity whether newly issued renewed or changed.

From January 1, 2026, any permit application showing a salary below AED 6,000 will be blocked automatically. Employers will be asked to revise the wage before the process can continue.

What Happens If Employers Don’t Comply

If salaries are not corrected by June 30, 2026, enforcement begins from July 1. Emirati employees earning below AED 6,000 will be excluded from Emiratisation quota calculations. Companies may also face restrictions on issuing new work permits.

Previously, the minimum salary stood at AED 5,000 for Emiratis hired from January 2025. The new AED 6,000 minimum salary in UAE marks a tighter compliance phase.

For businesses, this is a clear deadline. For Emirati workers, it brings stronger wage protection. For expats watching closely, it signals how strictly the UAE is now enforcing labour policy.
