Bulgaria has officially launched the NEW Bulgaria Nomad Visa, already started accepting applications from December 20th, 2025.

After joining the Schengen Zone earlier this year, this new program welcomes foreign remote workers who earn at least €31,000 annually and are employed or operate businesses outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland. The permit is valid for one year and can be extended once, but it doesn’t directly lead to permanent residency.

Bulgaria Nomad Visa Rules, Eligibility and Process

To be eligible for Bulgaria digital Nomad Visa, applicants must present employment or service contracts and proof of income.

To obtain the Bulgaria Nomad Visa for foreigners, candidates must first secure a multiple entry visa, which may take up to two months. Once in Bulgaria, residence processing usually takes two to four weeks, followed by an ID card issued within three to 30 days. Dependents may join through family reunification.

3 Types of Workers Eligible for Bulgaria Nomad Visa

First are those foreign nationals who are the emplyees of any company which is registered outside EU, EEA and/or Switzerland. They must meet the minimum income requirement and work remotely for their employer.

Second are the freelancers, providing services online for at least one year. For eligibilty, they must not work for any Bulgarian company as a freelancer.

Third type of foreign nationals are those who are the members or al least 25% shareholders of any company, not registered in EU, EEA, Switzerland or Bulgaria. They also, must meet the minimum income requirements.

While this permit doesn’t grant long term settlement, Bulgaria maintains a separate investor route offering fast-track permanent residency for investments of BGN 1 million. Across Europe, requirements differ widely, with Estonia, Spain and Italy offering contrasting income thresholds and residency timelines.

For global remote workers, the Bulgaria Nomad Visa offers a new way to live in the Schengen/EU while continuing their employment.
